The next music project for Los Lobos, Louie said, will be an album of Latin American children songs. It includes historical treasures about Preservation Hall and Preservation Hall Jazz Band. The new CD will be available on line at the band’s web site http://www.preservationhall.com starting July, 2007. Mr. Ben Jaffe, artistic director of Preservation Hall shared with ART+ how Hurricane Katrina's affected the band and led to the release of their new CD, Made in New Orleans, to commemorate and preserve its 47 year music history. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the homes of five of the band's members and led to closing Preservation Hall's building for eight months. The building re-opened in May, 2006 to a limited performance schedule. Mr. Jaffe described his and his wife's efforts to raise public awarness for the need of artstic and cultural projects in New Orleans after Katrina. He also described their work to help musicians in New Orleans after Katrina. Mr. Jaffe discussed Preservation Hall’s tour this summer which included performances in London with Allen Toussaint. The Conference is an all day event at Bear Flag Farm in Winters, California. The morning program will feature plein air painting demonstrations by several eminent Sacramento Valley landscape painters: Gregory Kondos, Chella, Deladier Almeida, Philippe Gandiol, and Marie-Térèse Brown. Following the demonstrations will be a lunch with the artists. The day event will be followed by an evening party at the Natsoulas Gallery. This interview included conversations with painters Philippe Gandiol and Melissa Chandon. Melissa talked about her new book Landmarks: A Visual Essay. Melissa and Philippe talked about the Painting Workshop they are conducting in France this year from August 23 to September 1. This workshop will begin in Paris and include Giverny and Montdoubleau where the attendees will spend the days painting the French countryside. She talked about how she expanded the Winery's art collection to include sculptures by Beniamino Bufano and other famous artists from California and from around the world. Mrs. Mondavi's interest in good food and fine wines led to introducing the Executive Chef Classes at the Robert Mondavi Winery. She recently introduced TAST3: Art Music, Food series at the Winery. Mrs. Mondavi believes that good food and wine are important because, she said. 'important events in our lives are celebrated around dinner tables.' In this interview, Mrs. Mondavi talked about some of the Mondavi family's past and future philanthropic plans that relate to art and education at UCDavis. She is very proud of the Art Department and Wine School at UCDavis, and believes that UCDavis is an excellent University. The RWW Art Center received the prestigious Aga Khan Architecture Award in 1983. It is world famous for its hand made, museum quality tapestries. The tapestries are made from natural materials dyed using natural dyes, whose plants are grown on the grounds of the Art Center. In this interview, Ikram Nosshi described the dye making process for Indigo, Weld and Nila, which date back to the Ancient Egyptian and Coptic Era. In this podcast, Lady Hilary Weir gave a retrospective of the Art Center and described the exhibits that were held in Britain for the Art Center, the last exhibit in 2006, commemorated the 50th anninversary of the Center. Barbara Heller discussed the books that were published about the Art Center since 1961.
