September 26: Gloria Tristani
|
Gloria Tristani, a former member of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and an internationally respected media reform advocate was the guest on ART+ on September 26th. Ms. Tristani is interviewed by Jeff Shaw and Autumn Labbé-Renault of Davis Media Access, the local organization that operates DCTV public access channel 15 and KDRT. The interview touches on media consolidation, Low-power FM radio, the conversion to digital television, and the impacts of media violence on children. In addition to her work with the FCC, Tristani previously served as the president of the Benton Foundation, where she oversaw the foundation's work in educating policy-makers, academics and activists about their stakes in communications policy. Winston Smith talks about how his latest work, the helmet he did for the 30th anniversary of Star Wars and the art he did for Ben Harper's new album, Both Sides of the Gun. Mr. Smith talked about the techniques he uses to convey his message and the collection of his art that has been published in 3 volumes.
